Dear Anna I have written to tell you that I will not be able to take those two lovely evening dresses which I asked you to put aside the material for me. I have had very sad news from England by last mail. An Uncle whom I loved very dearly died suddenly - also a cousin who was very "near" to me, almost like a brother, and under these circumstances I could not possibly wear colors when staying in their immediate circle. It would seem heartless. I hate to give those dresses up for they were so lovely, still I feel it is the only thing to do - and know you will understand. Thanking you for the all the trouble you took with my white serge - and it is most satisfactory. Yours very sincerely, Ella Fielding-Jones I am not sure of your number on Broadway - so am enclosing addressed envelope for you to write at once and tell me it will be alright - and then I will know you got my letter.
