LETTER #: L002

To:

Anna Tirocchi

From:

Ella Fielding-Jones

Address of Sender:

Text:

Dear Anna,

I wrote you yesterday, but afterwards I found I had put the wrong number of your Broadway address. So am sending this, in case you don't get the other letter.

I heard by the last English mail, that one of my favorite uncles had just died in England-and that one of my cousins had died in Germany under particularly sad circumstances. As this uncle and cousin were both like father and brother to me, I feel that when I go to England in the near future, I could not possibly wear colors. So I am writing to ask you not to keep those evening dress materials which we had decided on, for much as I adore them-I don't think I could use them, and I will have to wait for brighter days before wearing those pretty colors. The weather here is glorious, so warm we bath everyday and are having a lovely time. I saw Mrs. McDonald in Washington. She asked for you and Laura - Mrs. McDonald will be back in a few days, so of course she is very happy. I am sure this place would remind you of sunny Italy. I am enclosing a stamped envelope for you to write and tell me it is alright - about giving up those dresses, that I am not inconveniencing you too much, but I feel it is the only thing to do.

Hoping you are both well.

Yours very sincerely,
