Michel Dubost headed François Ducharne's design school in
Paris during the 1920s. This spectacular velvet may have been styled
by Dubost after a Turkish velvet pattern, which he updated with
brilliant modernist purple. The design was a favorite of Ducharne,
who gave a piece of it in gold and orange to the Museum of Historic
Textiles in Lyon in 1922.
