From Custom Dressmaking
to Ready-to-Wear

When the Tirocchi sisters began their dressmaking business, most middle- and upper-class women had the bulk of their wardrobes made to order. Some women made their own clothes. Many chose styles from fashion magazines, then purchased fabrics and trims from local department stores and hired seamstresses or dressmakers to make up the desired garments with the purchased materials.
