In their early years in Providence, family tradition indicates
that Anna and Laura Tirocchi worked for Rose Carraer, a dressmaker
to the upper classes who remained their chief competitor as "Madame
Zarr" in later years. By 1912, the Tirocchi sisters had set
up their own shop in the Butler Exchange building on Westminster
Street, evidently taking some of Rose Carraer's wealthy clients
              with them.
